Jean Michel Basquiat

I would say the most challenging process of this drawing was the placement of color, hahahaahah.

I Love Basquiat’s hair.

He was a very unique “gifted” individual.

The reason why I put “gifted” in quotation marks.

I often hear artists or musicians be called “gifted” in interviews or compliments.

This has happened to me as well.

In saying another is gifted and yourself is not is quite a paradox.

We are all “gifted.”

It is just how you use your “gift” in this world.

Look within yourself and listen to that subconscious of yours.

Who are you deep within your soul?

Life is a gift.

Remember that.

I did not stress myself out as much on the process of this drawing compared to most.

The person in this drawing is Jean Michel Basquiat.

I am guessing if you “know” your art you will know who “Basquiat” is.

If you do not understand art history, it will be quite confusing to understand the meaning of Basquiat’s paintings.

The style of art Basquiat created was Neo-expressionism, Primitivism, and contemporary art.

Some will say his artwork is rubbish others will see the pure organic beauty in each brush stroke.

You can sit down and observe a single piece of art for an infinite amount of time.

There is always something to learn even though you think there is nothing to learn.

In the end, art is subjective and the viewer manifests an opinion/perception of each artwork they observe.

In my perception. What the “individual” sees within the art itself is a reflection of their soul at this moment.

Here are a few quotes I would like to share by Jean Michel Basquiat. I relate to what he says within each quote. I am sure many other individuals will as well.

– ” I am not a black artist, I am an artist.”

– “I wanted to be a star, not a gallery mascot.”

– “I cross out words so you will see them more; the fact that they are obscured makes you want to read them.”

– “I was a really lousy artist as a kid. Too abstract expressionist; or I’d draw a big ram’s head, really messy. I’d never win painting contests. I remember losing to a guy who did a perfect Spiderman.”

– “I don’t listen to what art critics say. I don’t know anybody who needs a critic to find out what art is.”

– “I like kids’ work more than work by real artists any day.”

– “There are about 30 words around you all the time, like “thread” or “exit.”

– “I want to make paintings that look as if they were made by a child.”

– “The black person is the protagonist in most of my paintings. I realized that I didn’t see many paintings with black people in them.”

There are many more quotes I could post that I can relate to. I will stop before I get too carried away.

Bob Ross

A little late posting this. Finished the drawing a few weeks ago.

It took an immense amount of energy to create this drawing.

The colors in this drawing are similar to some of the drawings I have created in the past.

Attempted to use bright and vibrant colors.

I ended up using almost all of the paper corner to corner.

I use 18×24 inch paper when creating most of my drawings.

Whenever I begin the sketch of each drawing I have an uncertain feeling.

Thinking in my mind. “How will this go” In a doubtful but undoubtful voice.

Thinking of the future and manifesting doubtful thoughts.

Then retelling my subconscious mind anything is possible and to not doubt myself

You can never rush the process.

Especially the creative process.

You have to let the moment “be.”

Let it happen.

If you force the creative process.

The art your soul “intended” to create will not manifest itself into existence.

If you are creating your art for the validation of others.

The purpose of “creation/art” is destroyed.

The creative process should be meditative.

Not forced similar to a “duty.”

Use your heart and soul as tools when creating.

Ignore what others think.

“You” are the creator of your own art.

You have to desire the creative process to the point where you become lost in the process itself.

Create art that will make no sense to you at the moment.

Only in the future, will your creations make “sense” to you.

Let the moment be and accept what you have created.

Fix something if you need to fix something.

Do not get too carried away.

There are infinite mistakes and possible “corrections” or “errors.”

How do we know what is “correct” and “incorrect.”

Art is here for the individual to express themselves through their own reality.

The artist is sharing perspective through their subconscious mind.

Art holds infinite possibilities and ideas…

Harness your energy the best you can before beginning a piece of art.

Be delicate when arting.

Everything is art to a certain extent.

Here are a few quotes I would like to share by Bob Ross. I relate to what he says within each quote. I am sure many other individuals will as well.

– “I think there’s an artist hidden at the bottom of every single one of us.”

– “Look around. Look at what we have. Beauty is everywhere—you only have to look to see it.”

– “This is your world. You’re the creator. Find freedom on this canvas. Believe, that you can do it, ‘cuz you can do it.”

– “You can do anything here — the only prerequisite is that it makes you happy.”

– “Talent is a pursued interest. Anything that you’re willing to practice, you can do.”

– “I guess I’m a little weird. I like to talk to trees and animals. That’s okay though; I have more fun than most people.”

– “I can’t think of anything more rewarding than being able to express yourself to others through painting. Exercising the imagination, experimenting with talents, being creative; these things, to me, are truly the windows to your soul.”

– “The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.”

– “If we’re going to have animals around we all have to be concerned about them and take care of them.”

There are many more quotes I could post that I can relate to. I will stop before I get too carried away.

Jimi Hendrix

DSC_0878

The drawing is finally complete after countless hours and many late nights. I was awake till 1:30 am finishing this. So technically the same day I’m posting it hahaha.

I didn’t think to look at the time till I was finished with the drawing itself. I couldn’t sleep till I finished the drawing. Sleep or art, it’s a difficult choice. I wish I didn’t have to sleep at all, instead I could create art throughout each and every night.

The nights I know I don’t work the next day or I have nothing going on I’ll stay up quite late and draw as much as my mind lets me. I get lost within my own imaginative world. Within that Imaginative world, I created this drawing.

The journey of this drawing was similar to a roller coaster. At times I had no idea what I was doing and was going with the flow. Then at times, I guess you can say I think I knew what I was doing.

I feel as If I have no idea what is going on when I draw, but I just do what my soul tells me. I’ll change my mind about what to do about one million times. The end result of the drawing has an infinite amount of possibilities. I could have used any color or any shape while creating this.

I’d say it’s more of the universe creating the art than myself. I get into an art “nirvana” and get completely lost within my own world. Creating away while the rest of the world is busy doing earth like things.

The Final drawing is of Jimi Hendrix.

The red colors were the most challenging out of the whole entire drawing itself. I bet there are 4 different shades of red in each shape. In the end, it’s something of my own color. A lot of different reds mixed together. The way they name, colors is very precise.

If you didn’t know I use Prismacolor colored pencils on my drawings. I’ll explain how I create and blend the colors. I have this piece of paper on the side of my drawing table. In the past, I’ve used it more than I do now.

If I’m uncertain of using a color. I apply the color to the paper to see what It’ll look like. I’m to a point now where I look at a color and I trust within my heart the color is correct. If I’m certain of the color I don’t use the paper at all. I attempt my best to ignore the paper to improve my art skills.

Colors are kinda similar to math. I’ll explain. Certain colors when mixed create certain tones and shades. Or possibly creating a whole new color itself. It’s like a formula that has to be added up together to create a final outcome. A formula for math or a formula of colors. It’s a weird analogy my mind thought of.

I’m a mad scientist with many colors and I have one ridiculous imagination.

I won’t say for sure what represents what in the image. That’s for you to create with your own imagination. Observe the image carefully and with all the time you please.

This is one main factor of my art. I let the viewer create their own image and that’s a manifestation of their own thoughts. We’ll all see something different, but alike in the end.

I’ve been learning how to use my camera for a while now. I feel I can take a more improved picture, but I’m still learning. Stay with me, hahahahaha.

As I leave you to observe the drawing.

Here are a few quotes I’d like to share by Jimi Hendrix. I relate to what he says within each quote. I’m sure many other individuals will as well.

-“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”

-“I used to live in a room full of mirrors; all I could see was me. I take my spirit and I crash my mirrors, now the whole world is here for me to see.”

-“I’m the one that has to die when it’s time for me to die, so let me live my life, the way I want to”

-“[In response to being asked if his band does gimmicks]Gimmicks, here we go again, gimmicks man, I’m tired of people saying we’re…. gimmicks, what is this? The world is nothing but a big gimmick, isn’t it? Wars, napalm bombs, all that, people getting burned up on tv and it’s nothing but a stunt. Gimmick. Yes we do.”

-“You have to give people something to dream on.”

– “The story of life is quicker then the blink of an eye, the story of love is hello, goodbye.”

– “White collar conservative flashin down the street, pointing that plastic finger at me, they all assume my kind will drop and die, but I’m gonna wave my freak flag high.”

– “If it was up to me, there wouldn’t be no such thing as the establishment.”

There are many more quotes I could post that I can relate to. I’ll stop before I get too carried away.

I’m not sure if I have an Idol or look up to anyone. In life, all I’m trying to do is be myself. Be the greatest version I can become. But if I were to look up to someone and want to be similar to someone it would be Jimi.

I wasn’t alive to experience him in person, but his soul and energy will last in this world forever. He was a loved man by many individuals and is truly missed.

Thank you for observing my art and I appreciate the love and energy everyone puts towards my craft.

Much love!

Finished up the drawing about an hour ago. I Always clean the image before spraying it. When doing that I check the paper for pencil shavings from the colors and fill in white areas that are easily noticeable.

Whenever a piece is done, I look at it and think it’s never done. Something can always be added or messed with.

I have to stop myself or I would work on one single piece my whole life, hahahaha.

You never know when you’re really done, I guess you’re done when your guts say. “Okay, I think we’re done here now.” hahahaha.

Throughout the process of drawing this, there were endless guesses. Like always, the guesses ranged from, the image I was thinking, things I never thought to be in the image and many more ideas. It’s always enjoyable and interesting when people look at my art.

Sometimes people see things that I never knew were in my art, and it’s just there. It just takes time for my mind to process others ideas and images. I don’t always see what everyone else sees. I try my best to use my imagination and see what the viewers see

I guess anything could be in my art. When there’s no color, the range of ideas is infinite throughout the mind. With color as, well, anything could be in the image too.

It’s all about what the viewer decides to see. They say what you see defines your emotions in a way. How you’re feeling at the moment.

Everyone will see the same exact image, but not necessarily. Depending on the individual the image will be transferred differently. Seeing the same image but in the end, we’ll all look at it differently creating a new story for each one of us.

Let your imagination take over and create a picture for you to see. Don’t hold on, let it be free. Think no thoughts and just focus on the colors and shapes to create a final image.

In this image, I see a colorful octopus.

When looking at this drawing the meaning of it will be different for everyone.

My first thought is freedom or a free-spirited soul. All the colors represent the journey happing within the octopus, crazy looking to most but happy and full of colors being the emotions on the inside. Feeling all emotion that can be felt. From the worst emotions to the best emotions. Every feeling that is possible. Notice how I say that this is the inside of the octopus. It’s the inside that only matters. Each person is like this octopus. All revealing different colors and such. Never to really show, but it’s all within. Being the emotions, creating each individual.

This octopus is on a mission and nothing is in its way, the colors also represent the strength and vitality of the spirit of the octopus.

Like I said before what you see is how you feel emotionally.

Each drawing in a way. After I complete it, I’m the drawing. I feel what the image looks like. The colors represent how I feel at the moment.

I feel like a colorful octopus on a mission and nothings stopping me. I’m riding on a wave at a certain frequency enjoying this journey of life day by day. For each day to bring new endeavors. All challenges accepted to create thyself into the greatest version that’s out there.

Life itself and the experiences you create are the greatest teachers that are out there. Learn and mess up, both are needed. Life’s not a clean and simple paved road, there will be many twists and turns.

Just never lose your balance or frequency, kinda like riding a bike and in the end, everything will be okay. Follow your gut and heart.

I’m this octopus and so are you, it’s just that we will all interpret It differently.

I shared my story. What’s your story? What do you see in this image? There’s no right or wrong, share as you please.
